Best Grant Project

Through a competitive grant process, Center Consolidated School District was approved to receive monies from the Colorado Department of Education to build our new facility. BEST provides funding in the form of competitive grants to school districts. BEST funds can be used for the construction of new schools as well as general construction and renovation of existing school facility systems and structures.

We have currently been in our facility for 4 years and what a great facility we have! Currently there are some dollars from the BEST grant that we are working to utilize for facility improvements. These improvement are to be approved by CDE prior to using the dollars and we must have them spent prior to December 2016. There is no cost to the district as the monies are left over from the Best Grant.

Below is a list of some projects that we have been working on. I will continue to provide updates as these improvements are completed.

Electrical surge protection- When we have short power outages or what is referred to as brown outs the computer network system has difficulty recovering. Surge protection will protect the district computers when an outage occurs.

Upstairs Swamp Cooling- The upstairs of the school gets very hot during the summer months but most importantly when students come back in August and continue on until it gets colder. We have a couple places in the building that use swamp cooling systems that are a part of the fresh air system within the school building and it does cool down each of the areas. We need to do something for our teachers and students upstairs during the hotter months.

Emergency Lighting- The current emergency lighting utilizes a battery system that has proven to be quite costly throughout the years. We are working to change out this lighting with a light that is more efficient to operate.

Baseball bleachers- The baseball bleachers have been in poor shape and are in desperate need of replacement.

Water Meters- As required by the Town of Center, we will need to update and have installed water meters to all of our facilities.

Boys and Girls Club Lighting- The main room is very dark and in need of some brighter lighting.
