The Viking Honor Choir (kindergarten-5th grade auditioned group) competed in a CHSAA sanctioned large group choral festival. This took place on Friday April 15th at Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs. The choir performed 3 songs in front of 3 judges and then they had to go to a different room to be judged in sight reading which is when they are given a piece of music they have never seen and have to try their best to perform it. We also had the experience of being audience members for a few other choirs, a professional photo shoot, and dessert at Olive Garden on the way back home!

When we arrived I asked who the judges were. My friend told me that the three judges were judging accurately and perhaps a little harshly. I understood that as I looked at the posted scores and saw a lot of II’s and III’s posted for other choirs (I= superior, II= Excellent, III=Good, IV= Fair, V=unprepared).

Viking Honor Choir received I’s from all judges including the sight-reading judge. In other words, we swept it! It doesn’t get any better than this!

Attached are some photos of our fun time. Also, attached is a pic of the posted scores and some judge sheets.

Here are couple of my favorite comments from judges during their recorded critique:

“Welcome Center High school to our festival… oh, it appears there is a mistake and you are actually elementary… even more impressive!”

“Don’t forget to tell your face it is ok to smile!”

Thanks to everyone who supports the performing arts,

Gabriel

Below are each judges score sheets and comments.
